HERITIER Lumumba would be a “tremendous match-up” with Melbourne coach Paul Roos, according to the 2010 Collingwood premiership player’s manager Ben Niall.

Speaking on on Monday, Niall said Roos’ “vast people management skills” and ability to communicate clearly with his players were traits that would fit well with Lumumba.

“There is a bit about Roosy, which happens to be quite a good match for Heritier, but there are some other clubs a lot further up the ladder that are also interested in his services,” he told afl.com.au’s NAB AFL Trade Radio.

“Modern footy is about breaking the lines and moving the football and he’s a 27-year-old, All-Australian, who has been in the top five of the best and fairest three of the last five years at a very successful football club and he’s averaged 20 possessions this year.

“He’s a valuable asset to any football club that gets him in there. He’s a super professional. We’ve got to look at all of his opportunities and Melbourne is one of those opportunities – no doubt.”

Niall said there was a “huge misconception” about Lumumba, adding that he was not “distractive or difficult”.

“He’s very easy to work with and he’s rational. He’s just a very passionate and professional footballer. He’s very conscious of making sure that how he expresses himself is constructive and helpful.”

“He’s very, very, very passionate about success for a team, so when you get him on side, all he’s trying to do is help the team become more successful and set the standards and drive the group.

“That’s an asset if you can manage it right and he’s certainly open to feedback.”

Niall said it “was unlikely” Lumumba would remain at Collingwood.
