MIDFIELDER Dom Tyson says the players had honest and genuine conversations during its two days of reviewing Sunday’s loss against the Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium.

Tyson said it was important the team spent the necessary time to dissect the loss – particularly after the Lions kicked the last six goals of the match to win the game by 23 points, when the Demons led by 14 points early in the final term.

“We’ve been pretty solid all yesterday (Monday) and today (Tuesday), reflecting on the game and going through the process,” he told Dee TV.

“We’ve probably spent a little bit more time than usual, considering how disappointing it was. A lot of the meetings were pretty player driven, so we had good discussions that went back and forth.

“It feels like we can move on and look forward to next week now. It feels like we’ve done a really solid couple of days to review that game and hopefully we can attack training and build a bit more confidence into [the] Hawthorn [match].”

Tyson acknowledged the meetings were “confronting” at times, as they analysed the round 19 loss.

“It’s disappointing to watch footage and see such negative footage. It’s just a reflection of the game and it comes down to the players,” he said.

“There’s nothing that the coaches could have done in that last 10 or 15 minutes – it was all us [players] on the field.

“That’s why we drove the meetings today and yesterday, so we’ve tried to address a few things and that’s what we’ve got to implement in the last four games of the year.”

Tyson said coach Paul Roos’ message had not wavered one iota, as he continued to urge his charges to ‘know your role, play your role’.

“Roosy just can’t emphasise more how playing your role for the team is what gets us in a position to win. We just go away from that when the game is on the line – [and that’s what we did] against Brisbane in the last quarter,” he said.

“Maybe we tried to do too much more and we didn’t have that composure that got us 14 points up early in the last [quarter].

“From there, we’re not sure what we could have put it down to exactly, but it just felt like we went outside of what we’d been doing to get us in that position to win the game.”

Looking ahead to this Saturday’s clash against Hawthorn at the MCG, Tyson said it was absolutely imperative that the Demons hit back strongly.

“We’ve just got to bring effort against the Hawks, but as disappointing as we were against the Lions, it’s a six-day turnaround and we can’t dwell on it too much now,” he said.

“We’ve done two solid days of reviewing that game and we trained today (Tuesday) and we go onto Thursday and look at how the Hawks are going.

“[We’ll] look to bring a really solid game plan and implement it Saturday.”
