Ball movement coach Mark Williams speaks exclusively to melbournefc.com.au in the first of a nine-part series about how the Melbourne players are tracking this  pre-season

Rohan Bail
Rohan is honing in on his running ability and his endurance. He needs to keep stretching out as far as he can. Rohan’s kicking and decision-making are also areas he is working on. He just needs to take his time with his decision-making, so he can work on what he’s trying to achieve. His ball dropping and kicks to space are other areas to work on. But so far, he’s training really well over the pre-season.

Clint Bartram
Clint just needs to keep doing the things that made him a good player last year. He needs to continue to make the right decisions with his kicks, and needs to keep maintaining his strength. He’s among the top echelon in strength at the club. Clint also needs to keep building on his leadership over the summer. He has been leading well with his actions and his efforts.

Matthew Bate
Matty has been working on his decision-making and his fitness base. He needs to make sure he gets through the whole pre-season without injury. Unfortunately, injuries have held him back in the past - he’s had one or two injuries that have stopped him from having a full pre-season. Hopefully, he can keep getting his body right and build on his continuity, which will set him up for a good year.

Jamie Bennell
Jamie is really training well, but he needs to keep working hard on building his strength in the gym. He also needs to keep taking in all of the information that he can, in regards to game plans and the way we want to play. We want him to be fresh and flexible in the mind, because his versatility means he can play back, forward or midfield. His pace has been fantastic over the pre-season.

Sam Blease
Sammy has been really good so far. He’s been doing sprint work with Nathan Jones, Rohan Bail and Tom Scully, so that’s been a real positive. So he’s put himself in a really hard group. He’s got great pace and now, entering his third season, he needs to make sure he can get his legs, body and routine correct. He’s got great talent and needs to keep getting the best out of himself.
