MELBOURNE has added five players to its squad for Sunday’s clash against Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.

The Demons have included Luke Tapscott, Stef Martin, Rohan Bail, Jake Spencer and Jamie Bennell.

As confirmed earlier in the week, leading goalkicker Mitch Clark will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.

Former vice-captain Aaron Davey is also a forced omission, due to a hamstring injury.

“Aaron experienced some hamstring tightness during the game and this was still present during the main session,” football manager Josh Mahoney told melbournefc.com.au.

“He won’t play this week and we are hopeful he should be right for next round.”

Tapscott has been named in the starting 18, while Martin, Bail, Spencer and Bennell have been named on the extended interchange.

Matthew Bate, Lynden Dunn and Sam Blease have also been selected on the initial bench.

Mahoney said Bail had passed the required tests to be named in the squad and Tapscott was rushed back after serving one week on the sidelines.

“We’re pleased that Rohan has passed his neurological tests and he’s available for selection this week,” he said.

“Luke regained his spot back in the side after missing one game through suspension,” Mahoney said.

Bail has missed the past four matches with concussion, after playing in eight of the opening nine rounds. The versatile runner was a late withdrawal last round against Greater Western Sydney.

Martin, who was one of Melbourne’s most improved and important players last season, returns the provisional line-up, after just two matches this season. The versatile big man has battled a hip and quadriceps injury.

The speedy Bennell has featured in four matches this season, with his most recent appearance coming against Carlton in round nine.

Spencer has yet to play a match this season, after a knee injury halted his pre-season. He also missed the opening two rounds, but has since played for Casey in the VFL.

The ruckman has played eight matches in 2009-10, after missing much of last season when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament.

Co-captain Jack Trengove and midfielder Jordie McKenzie both play their 50th game this round.
