MELBOURNE has regained defender Colin Garland for Saturday’s clash against Greater Western Sydney at Skoda Stadium, but has lost key forward Chris Dawes with a calf injury.

Garland missed his first match of the season last round, when the Demons were smashed by the Kangaroos at Etihad Stadium.

Dawes’ frustrating first season with Melbourne continues, after a hamstring injury in the pre-season forced him to miss the start of 2013.

The 2010 Collingwood premiership player also battled an ankle problem midway during the year.

General manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said the Demons were "disappointed to lose both James and Chris for this week's game against GWS".

"James has a hamstring strain and will miss the next 3-4 weeks," he told melbournefc.com.au.

"Chris left the track early yesterday with a sore calf and will miss this week, [so] hopefully he will be available next week against Gold Coast."

The Demons have also rushed back rebounder Dean Terlich, after he was a late withdrawal from last Saturday’s 122-point loss due to a quadriceps injury.

Ruckman Jake Spencer, who was suspended for three matches by the match review panel for front on contact following his impressive performance against St Kilda in round 13, has been recalled.

He has been on the cusp of selection all season, having been an emergency 10 times.

As expected, the Demons have lost key backman James Frawley for the next three to four weeks with a hamstring injury.

Speedster Sam Blease has been left out of the side.

Midfielder Jordie McKenzie, dasher Daniel Nicholson and yet-to-debut Demon Troy Davis are the emergencies.
