MELBOURNE has signed more than 500 members on Tuesday night, as the club aims for a pre-round one record of 35,000 members.

Players, coaches and staff hit the phones at the MCG administration offices, calling close to 2000 unrenewed members from 2014.

The club has run the telethon annually since 2008, with this year its best effort.

Manager of consumer business Jane McGough said it was a great club event.

“There was a real buzz around the office as everyone was calling and making sales,” she told melbournefc.com.au.

“The focus from here on in is getting new and lapsed members on board in the lead-up to the season and last night was a great start.

“But I would like to thank all of the 28,250 people that had already joined for 2015 prior to last night (Tuesday). Your support is greatly appreciated and vital to the club’s ongoing success.”
