SENIOR assistant coach Simon Goodwin has applauded the performances of skipper Nathan Jones and his former Adelaide teammate Bernie Vince against Collingwood on Queen’s Birthday.

Goodwin said the pair had strong games against a classy Collingwood midfield – notching up 34 disposals each – and could be well pleased with their efforts.

“They had a good day. They were playing against some pretty good players – Collingwood [capain] Scott Pendlebury and Dane Swan and these types of players,” he said.

“To get the ascendency in that area of the ground was something that was really important to us.

“We want to be a contest team and to be able to do that you need guys around the ball that can play a certain way and those two certainly did it for us.”

Meanwhile, Goodwin said the now retired Chris Judd was an “unbelievable player”.

“I played against him in a couple of prelim finals and he absolutely destroyed us,” he said.

“You can just see why such a champion of the game he’s a great people person –he thinks long and hard about the game.

“He’s going to rate as one of the best of all time and I wish him well in the future.”
