JACK Viney says maintaining his consistency is his number individual goal.

Viney said Melbourne’s system that it now had in place was allowing a lot of players to play at a high level.

“I feel like I’m going OK at the moment. I still feel as though I’ve got a lot of improvement to make,” he said.

“While I feel like my form has been OK, I still want to be consistent throughout the year.

“I’d really like that to maintain than the rest of the year.”

Viney said it was difficult to expect a 37-disposal performance, including 23 contested possessions, every week, as was the case against Richmond last Sunday night at the MCG.

“I don’t feel like I’m going to be able to dish up those performances every week at the moment,” he said.

“I feel like I’m capable of playing that type of football, but consistency is what I really want to work hard on.

“I want to make it a full year.”

Viney said it was not unrealistic to suggest Melbourne could make the eight this year.

“I don’t see why it’s not achievable if we keep playing how we’re playing,” he said.

“We’ve still got a lot of levels to go and the competition is in really good nick at the moment.

“It’s really competitive … if we can keep consistently performing the way we are, I don’t think it’s unrealistic that we find ourselves in finals footy at the end of the year.”

Meanwhile, Viney said Christian Petracca remained right on the cusp of selection this round.

“He’s a very excitable character and someone who is extremely eager to get out and debut. But the club has done a terrific job in curbing his expectation a little bit,” he said.

“We’ve got players who are playing really well, and as much as I want him in the team, it’s hard to take someone out of the team for him.

“It’s a terrific problem to have and I’m sure Christian will find himself playing quite soon. It’s just that everyone is playing well and it’s hard to take someone out of the team.”

Viney added that Jack Watts also deserved all the credit that came his way, due to his strong form at the moment.
