MELBOURNE chief executive Cameron Schwab says the club will continue to investigate the possibility of shifting its long-term training base to Docklands, despite its 21-year lease with Olympic Park.

The Demons are set to move from Junction Oval to Olympic Park mid-year, but could look at moving closer to League headquarters in the future.

"We've done it (signed the Olympic Pak lease) in a way where we have the option every five years of reviewing it, because there are other opportunities," Schwab said at the club's annual general meeting at the MCG on Thursday night.

"All of a sudden, we've got the government, the AFL and other sporting organisations coming to us and saying 'Here is another opportunity'.

"One of those that we will be exploring is in Docklands - that has great potential for our club. We have that prospect, particularly with the control we have over the lease, and we can explore that at every five-year interval."

Schwab spoke of Docklands during his presentation of Melbourne's 'Red and Blueprint', a document highlighting the club's long-term sustainability.

Although Schwab acknowledged the club must continue to grow, he said it was now on track to "becoming the club we always wanted to be".

But he didn't mince words when speaking about the club's current training base.

"It is an indictment on our club that we're still operating out of the Junction Oval and we haven't been able to get that right," Schwab said, adding that "the good news" was that the club would be established in outstanding facilities at Olympic Park by this time next year.

"We signed a 21-year lease and we hope to be in there by the mid-season break, but it's just a little bit delayed at the moment."
