KAREN Paxman says the Demons are determined to stick to the style of play they showed against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Friday night, when they takes on Carlton at Ikon Park and the Western Bulldogs at VU Whitten Oval in their final two rounds.

Melbourne’s season is still well and truly alive after it defeated the Lions by a goal, and Paxman said it was a matter of executing the type of plan it did against Brisbane in the next couple of weeks.

“We’ll just go back to exactly what we did during the week – strip it back and focus on aggressive footy,” she told melbournefc.com.au.

“We’ll do exactly what we did against the Lions and hopefully get the outcome.”

Paxman said the dying stages against the Lions were intense, given much of the play was in Brisbane’s forward half.

“It was unbelievable. We’re rapt it came off because we went back to basic, hard, aggressive footy. We were missing that over the last couple of weeks, but we went back to basics and it came off and we won,” she said.

“My little heart was pumping in the last few minutes – it was very tense. It would’ve been horrible if they had have scored to even it in the last couple of minutes.

“We just cracked in and we weren’t going to let it go.”

Paxman has been one of Melbourne’s best performers in its first two AFLW seasons and she continued it against the Lions with 24 disposals. But she was humble in her appraisal of her game.

“It doesn’t feel like you get that many disposals out there, but I feel like it was quite evenly spread across the team,” she said.

“You can just feel it out there when everyone is working together and it’s such a good feeling – it lifts you up.

“We all feed off each other’s energy, so it’s really enjoyable when everyone is up and about.”
