JAMES Harmes says a spread of goalkickers was one of the most important aspects to emerge from Melbourne’s 53-point win over North Melbourne at Kingston Twin Ovals on Saturday afternoon.

Harmes said to have 12 goalkickers score 19 majors was a strong result and reinforced what the squad had been working on.

“We wanted to spread it out and not just [rely on] one goalkicker,” he said.

“I thought all of the forwards worked really well, along with the midfield and even down back.

“I thought we played a really good team role.”

Harmes, who played wing/forward, finished with 18 touches and two goals to be among Melbourne’s best.

“We were really happy to be back out there. It was great fun to be back,” he said.

“It was another good win, so we rolled in from AFLX to JLT and it was really good fun, and I hope the supporters have liked how we’re playing.

“The boys thought it was going to be raining and really windy, but Tassie turned it on for us and it was a beautiful day for us in the end.”

Harmes said he was rapt to see Bayley Fritsch perform strongly in his first full game for the club, while he also praised the efforts of big man Jesse Hogan (three goals) in attack.

“It’s great seeing him play and hopefully he can have a great year,” he said about Hogan.
