MIDFIELDER Dom Tyson says there is “definitely something building” at the club and “it’s a good train to be on at the moment”.

Speaking in Perth, before Melbourne’s clash against the West Coast Eagles at Domain Stadium on Saturday, Tyson said the team had upped the ante since the mid-season break.

“It feels like we’re progressing in the right direction, so no doubt, it’s a good spot to be in at this time of the year,” he said.

“We probably weren’t satisfied where we were at our bye round, but it’s been a good couple of weeks [since] – even though it’s only been a couple of weeks of the brand of footy we’ve been trying to implement all year.

“In terms of sustained consistency, we’re not quite there yet.”

Tyson said Melbourne’s poor recent record in Perth – it hasn’t defeated West Coast at Domain Stadium since 2002 – wasn’t an issue coming into this round.

And although Melbourne fell six points short against the Eagles in Perth last year, it wasn't mentioned in the build-up.

“We feel like we’ve had a massive turnover of players in the past two to three years, so it’s a new group,” Tyson said.

“We’re excited, it’s a new challenge and West Coast is in good form, after a very good win over Geelong last week.

“We feel like we’re playing a good brand of footy too, so I feel like it’s going to be two good sides going at it – and hopefully it’ll be a positive outcome for us.”
