DEAN Kent says he had no hesitation in signing on with Melbourne for the next couple of seasons.

The 22-year-old inked a new deal with the club late last week, committing to the red and blue until at least the end of 2018. Kent said he was adamant he wants to be part of Melbourne’s future.

“It was good to sign on with the club for another two years and it was a pretty easy decision,” he told Melbourne TV

“I wanted to stay at Melbourne and I want to be a Melbourne player and there are no reasons why I wouldn’t want to sign.

“Once we worked on something, and the club and myself agreed on it, it was pretty easy to sign, which was good.”

Kent, who will play his 16th match for the season against the West Coast Eagles at Domain Stadium on Saturday – his best effort in a season, will also be just two games shy of his 50th AFL game.

After missing just one match this season, in round eight against the Western Bulldogs at the MCG, Kent said he was pleased to build some continuity in his game, after experiencing some injury riddled seasons.

“My footy has been OK this year. A lot of my strengths have come out in my game and there is still a little bit of inconsistency with my ball use and my running patterns,” he said.

“Hopefully that weeds out by the end of the year and I can really focus on next year and the year after, just to make sure my game gets better and I get stronger and fitter.

“I can almost give myself a tick, but there are still so many inroads and I’m still young and willing to learn the game. I’m working closely with a lot of other players and Goody (Simon Goodwin) as well to make sure my game’s consistent.”
