PAUL Roos says Gill McLachlan’s dinner party earlier in the week was a great opportunity to mix with the other AFL coaches.

The AFL chief executive hosted the AFL coaches at his home, where they gathered to discuss informally a range of topics on the game.

Roos said it was worthwhile getting the coaches together.

“It was good. For interstate coaches, it’s hard for them to come down, but for the Victorian-based guys chatting to Gill, it’s pretty informal,” he said on Roos’ Views.

“We just generally have a good chat about footy.

“We stand around and have a bit of a drink before everyone gets there and then we sit around and have dinner.

“Really, Gill just tells us a little bit about what’s going on and then it’s ‘Q and A’ or discussion and then the night wraps up.”

Roos said it was pretty friendly among the coaches, even though some “strong views” were presented.

“Everyone’s respectful of Gill and [AFL football operations boss] Mark Evans,” he said.

“There are some differences of opinions clearly, but nothing too dramatic.”
