STAR Melbourne player Daisy Pearce has reflected on an outstanding year – both from a personal perspective and for women’s football.

Speaking in a video titled ‘We’ve got your back’, Pearce spoke with pride about her season and the progression of the game for females in 2015.

“The club is genuine in its support for women and girls who play footy,” she said.

“From the word go, the women’s team has felt like a genuine part of the club.

“We’ve been wholeheartedly embraced by the club, the players and the supporters and each year Melbourne continues to build its support to the game.”

Pearce was the first female player drafted by an AFL club and was the inaugural captain of the Melbourne women’s team.

In 2015, she won her sixth Helen Lambert Medal and was named Melbourne’s best female player. It was the first time the club has handed out this award.

Pearce said the fact that Melbourne also supported such causes as the BCNA Pink Lady breakfast and White Ribbon ‘Walk against family violence’ made her proud.

Pearce said it was “fantastic” that the club was right behind female football.

She added that this is why she “loves the Melbourne Football Club” and what it stands for.

“The women’s game is growing and female involvement in football continues to rise,” she said.

“There is no doubt the drive, commitment and support of the Melbourne Football Club has made that happen.”
