PAUL Roos says the tragic death of Phil Walsh is something that no one in the football community and wider public will ever forget.

Reflecting on Walsh’s passing, almost a week after the event, Roos said it was an unfathomable situation.

“It’s something none of us will ever forget. You just can’t put that completely behind you. You feel for the family and it’s just a shocking situation,” he told Roos’ Views.

“You go into the games on the weekend not being sure if you should play or shouldn’t you play?

“I know it was a big discussion for [AFL chief executive] Gill [McLachlan] and the AFL executive, and the games went on and I thought the way all of the players and coaches [handled it], particularly after the game, was fantastic.

“You keep on thinking about it … and you just think about it over and over again. Most people will for a long period of time.”

Senior assistant coach and Adelaide great Simon Goodwin echoed Roos’ sentiments and said it “took everyone with absolute shock”.

“The impact he’s had on the [Adelaide] footy club in a short amount of time. You speak to the players and they’re in shock and it’s just a horrible situation,” he told Dee TV.

“Your heart goes out to the family and the people involved in the footy club – the staff and the players and you do hope that they can get back on track quickly.

“It’s a really horrible thing that’s happened and hopefully there will be some great learning [from it] in time.”
