NATIONAL recruiting manager Jason Taylor runs through each of Melbourne’s four selections taken in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft on Wednesday.

James Harmes (selection No.2) - Video highlights
Dandenong Stingrays, 5/10/95, 185cm, 78kg, midfielder

“He’s a big strong-bodied midfielder and we think he’s got a lot of scope for improvement in his game. He’s good on both sides of the body and has a good attack on the ball. He runs very hard in the game and the same on the training track. He just brings a good strong ethic within that we think is essential in any player and certainly in a rookie type player.”

Max King (selection No.19) - Video highlights
Murray Bushrangers, 24/9/95, 200cm, 90kg, forward/ruckman

“We thought we needed to add a developing tall to our list and Max fits that bill. He’s got a really good footy skill set and he can take a good mark. He kicks the ball well and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. He’s pretty raw in terms of his education of what’s required at this level, but we feel that with our strong development program, we can bring Max in and give him some time and something good might come out the other end.”

Alex Georgiou (selection No.35) - Video highlights
Norwood, 1/2/90, 187cm, 88kg, defender

“I’ve seen him for a number of years now. When you watch Norwood play, you think ‘Gee, Georgiou was good’. So over a period of time, I just thought he plays his role really well. Every time you see him play, he’s a real fierce competitor and he’s rarely beaten one on one. I just thought that given a chance in a full-time environment, he could really prosper and play a strong role in our defence.”

Neville Jetta (selection No.50)
Melbourne, 12/2/90, 180cm, 80kg

“Nev brings some of those qualities we speak about with the other boys – he’s a great character and he works very hard. He just hasn’t had that continuity with pre-seasons under his belt. [Redrafting him again] was pretty simple for us.”
