MELBOURNE coach Simon Goodwin alluded to the possibility of changes for the clash with Geelong, despite last week’s 22 being deprived of a chance to play together.

This has kept the full playing list hungry for spots, as the competition heated up in Sunday’s intra-club match on the MCG.

So, after Mitch Hannan, Kysaiah Pickett and Aaron vandenBerg were included in Round 3, who could put up their hand for Round 4?

Here are some of the options Goodwin will have at his disposal come selection.

The keys

Mitch Brown, Luke Jackson, Sam Weideman

The Demons were preparing to trial a small forward line mix last weekend, and it’s likely that they’ll give that group a chance against the Cats.

But if a tall is needed to help out Tom McDonald, there are plenty of options to lean on.

Mitch Brown kicked three goals in the opening term of Sunday’s hit-out, while Luke Jackson was unlucky to be omitted after his debut win over Carlton.

Then there’s 22-year-old Sam Weideman who booted five majors in the practice match against the Blues, as he looks ready to take his chance when the opportunity presents itself.

The smalls

Nathan Jones, James Jordon, Alex Neal-Bullen

Nathan Jones was left out of the Round 3 side, as the club looked to give him some time to get his body back to 100 percent.

The former skipper will be itching to win back his spot, as will Alex Neal-Bullen who performed well in the first game back from isolation.

Or the Dees could turn to youth, with James Jordon, an untried 19-year-old, continuing to impress on the training track.

While the competition for spots at half-forward and through the midfield is tight, there are some handy options waiting in the wings.

The defenders

Michael Hibberd, Jay Lockhart, Oscar McDonald

The Dees saw a new-look backline play together for the first time in Round 3, and they may need some time to build that continuity.

But if the coaches opt for change, Michael Hibberd, Jay Lockhart and Oscar McDonald provide flexibility in their positions, and are reliable options who have all played good footy at the level.
