KYSAIAH Pickett will be bringing his flare to the red and blue after Melbourne selected the youngster with pick No.12 in the 2019 National Draft.

The 18-year-old is an attacking small forward from South Australia, and one National Recruiting Manager Jason Taylor is looking forward to seeing develop.

“He’s very exciting,” Taylor told Melbourne Media.

“He will bring excellent ground level play to our forward half in terms of his ability to tackle and hunt the opposition and take the ball at ground level.

“He’s got really good speed and agility, really good balance – he very rarely goes to ground.

“We just see that he’s got an excellent athletic profile that you’re really just scratching the surface of.

“The projection with Kysaiah is in two, three, four years’ time, he turns into a pretty good athlete.”

Pickett has caught onlookers’ attention throughout the season with his thrilling highlights reel and has the ability to show off his talent in a variety of positions on the field.

“He played a lot of footy through the midfield and up on the wing for school and through the nationals as well, but he’s played predominantly as a small forward and that’s where we see his best footy,” Taylor said.

At 170cm, Pickett has a defensive presence inside 50 and will provide an edge for the Dees when he finds his feet at AFL level.

The nephew of former Demon Byron Pickett is a dynamic player with all the traits to become a fan favourite in the future.

“He’s just got elite agility and excellent speed,” Taylor said.

“You put all that together and you’ve got a quick, agile athlete with a really good endurance base.”

Pickett joins fellow first round pick Luke Jackson at the red and blue, preparing to begin training with the main group next Monday.
