Ed Langdon nominates Melbourne

Josh Mahoney | Trade Period | Day 1 Josh Mahoney addresses the media on day one of the trade period.

MELBOURNE will be looking to secure Docker Ed Langdon during the Trade Period, as the midfielder nominated the Dees as his club of choice on Monday.

On a successful day for the Demons, where Adam Tomlinson joined the red and blue as a free agent, General Manager of Football Operations Josh Mahoney confirmed that Langdon also wants to find his way to the club.

“We started conversations with Fremantle, and I don’t think we’re too far away from working something out there,” Mahoney said.

The 23-year-old is a hard-running wingman who has played 68 games for Fremantle and would be a valuable addition to the Dees’ midfield, should they be able to arrange a trade prior to next Wednesday’s deadline.

Unfortunately for Melbourne, Magpie Jamie Elliott informed the club he will be exploring his options elsewhere.

“He told us over the weekend so there was an opportunity for us to get involved in that conversation, but he has made that decision,” Mahoney said.

“We didn’t go into too much depth about it – obviously he’s still got a bit of thinking to do, but we thought we put our best foot forward and there was an opportunity for us, but we’ve moved on pretty quick.”

And while rumours surrounding Angus Brayshaw’s future circulated over the weekend, Mahoney clarified that situation, as there was no truth to those comments.

“The only inquiry was Fremantle said they’re not interested,” he said.

“Angus is contracted to us, he’s not going anywhere, and Fremantle wanted to be clear that there were some reports that he was in Perth, but that was nothing to do with Fremantle Footy Club.”
