DURING the school holidays, the Melbourne Football Club has opened up its doors and welcomed some special kids into its facilities.

A range of youngsters attended a clinic run by AFLW players and academy coordinators Bianca Jakobsson and Katherine Smith last week, as the Demons hosted the children of their past players at AAMI Park.

This ‘Father-Son-Daughter Academy’ is a unique program that Smith is proud to be a part of.

“If you’re a past player who’s played 100 games your son can be involved, or if you’re a past player who’s played one game your daughter can be involved,” she told Melbourne Media.

“Basically, just getting them into the club, playing a few games with them and making sure they’re around.”

This academy is not only an opportunity for the kids to test out their skills, but also to enjoy a social experience at the home of the red and blue.

“All the past players love coming, catching up and seeing their kids run around and have a kick of the footy together and making new friendships,” Smith said.

“Normally we’ve been out on Gosch’s Paddock and done some skills, watched some vision, had a few tours of AAMI and the MCG.

“We try to keep it different each week so they find it interesting and learn a few different things.”

This academy, which was launched last year, encourages all potential father-son/daughter prospects between the age of four and 16 to come down and get a taste of life as a Melbourne footballer.
