With only six rounds and five games remaining in our Demons 2019 season, every match is vital in helping our girls reach the VFLW finals. Currently sitting in 9th on the ladder, Casey is eight points adrift from the top six, but with key match-ups against the sides above the Demons, reaching the finals is still possible. Let’s look at the run home…

Round 11 at NT Thunder

TIO Traeger Park – Alice Springs

Our girls escape the bitter Melbourne cold for some Territory heat this weekend as they face off against the NT Thunder as a curtain-raiser for the Melbourne AFL game in Alice Springs. Calling upon the team’s fitness from their tough pre-season training will be needed to cope with the expected 27 degrees at game time on Saturday night. The Thunder have used their home ground advantage well this year winning three of four games played in the Territory this season. It will require a massive effort by the Demons to get the win in this one.

Round 12 at Southern Saints

Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval

The Southern Saints look to be one of the favourites for the VFLW flag this year, riding a 7-game winning streak into Round 11. The Saints have already defeated Casey this year, punishing an inaccurate Demons side at home to run out 11-point winners. But the game was closely contested through three quarters, and it was missed chances which spoiled the Demons’ day. Should make for a cracking rematch.

Round 13 vs Darebin Falcons

Casey Fields

Darebin could be the side to throw a spanner in the Demons’ dream this season, after struggling through their first five games of the season, the Falcons have recorded two wins in their last three games, including a win over the NT Thunder. Casey cannot be sure of what to expect in this contest, only that the Falcons have the talent to upset them, this one needs the Demon leaders to rise to the occasion to win the game.

Round 14 at Hawthorn

Box Hill City Oval

The reigning premiers stumbled out of the blocks in 2019 losing its first two matches but has rebounded with some crucial wins and hard-fought losses. Currently a game ahead of the Demons as of Round 10, this match could be the game which defines who makes it to the top six and playing finals, and who has their finals dream ended.

Round 15 vs NT Thunder

Casey Fields

Our girls' final match of the season welcomes the Thunder to the friendly confines of Casey Fields. The match-up could pose as an elimination final for both sides, with the Thunder currently in 6th position after Round 10, which means this one could be a tricky match-up for the Demons. Casey has shown at its best it can make finals, in this game it just needs to be its best.

Round 16 Bye

Like our men’s side, the women’s season finishes on the bye, leaving them little they can do to influence the outcomes in the final round of the season. The run home gives the Demons a chance at progressing to the VFLW finals and cap what would be a sensational year two of the program.
