MELBOURNE headed out to its second home, Casey Fields, on Wednesday, to have a big hit-out ahead of Round 8.

The Demons’ main training run for the week took place with rain tumbling down, but Tom McDonald said it was a good change of scenery for the group.

“It’s a bit different for us, we’ve got a bit more space here than Gosch’s Paddock – a bit more private as well,” McDonald told Melbourne Media.

“It’s just a bit of a change up. We come out here a few times a year and got blessed with some beautiful conditions here today – nice and wet.

“It’s honestly not too different, but it gives us a chance to train on a really big ground.”

It’s not unusual for the Dees to train in Cranbourne, as the club spends a day down at Casey Fields every couple of weeks.

And the session was pretty standard, as the boys look to tidy up some aspects of their game ahead of this week’s clash with Gold Coast.

“We honestly did a bit of everything,” McDonald said.

“We did a lot of contact work – a lot of tackle training and physicality.

“The rest was just breakdown drills – skill drills, goal kicking, stuff like that.”

While Melbourne is coming off a thrilling five-point win over Hawthorn, McDonald knows his side can’t get ahead of themselves.

“[There’s] heaps to work on – a long way to go,” he said.

“We saw a lot of our game back in good areas against Hawthorn and still some huge areas for improvement, especially with things like finishing our work off and making the most of opportunities going forward.

“But we thought the defensive side was back in pretty good shape.”

The Demons will head to Gold Coast later in the week, ready to take on the Suns at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
