JACK Viney knows exactly where his side is at in 2019.

It’s been an underwhelming start to the season by the Demons, but the lack of success on-field certainly hasn’t been due to a lack of effort.

“Every time we come into the club we’re looking to improve, looking to better ourselves and the way we play,” Viney said.

“The goal and objective hasn’t changed.”

And while the results haven’t gone Melbourne’s way, the co-captain knows what needs to be done to get the season back on track.

“We go out there to be the best versions of ourselves as a collective,” Viney said.

“We want to play hard footy and we want to win.

“We’re not doing that and as a result we’re not winning, so we’ve got to change that.”

After a Preliminary Final berth in 2018, there were some lofty expectations externally for the Demons to reach even greater heights this year.

But Viney said the club never got ahead of themselves.

“Internally we were under no illusion that we had a long way to go,” he said.

“We have plenty of development to be had and it wasn’t necessarily just going to carry onto this season.”

And every effort is being made to turn the early season form slump around.

“We’ve had a difficult start to the season where we’re really trying to find our feet and get back to getting form like the backend of last year,” Viney said.

“That’s what we’re all striving to do when we come in.”
