ANOTHER taller ruck option or another key forward?

These are some of the questions that Melbourne will face when selecting its 22 for Tuesday night’s Anzac Day Eve match against Richmond at the MCG, co-captain Nathan Jones acknowledges.

With talls Sam Weideman and Cam Pedersen pressing their claims for a recall, Jones said it would be a balance, in terms of how many talls would come into the mix – along with how many changes would be made for round five.

“That’s the fine balance [between how many talls we have]. It’s a difficult decision come match committee – can we create enough pressure on the ground?” Jones said.

“Last weekend, Hawthorn scored too freely from our forward 50, and that’s the challenge for us.

“Then we need someone who can pinch-hit as the second ruck. They’re all of the discussions we’ll have this week.

“We’ll try and find that right balance against Richmond.”

Jones said he couldn’t wait to play in his fourth consecutive Anzac Day Eve match, which he said was an honour to be a part of.

“I’ve been involved in all of them. The AFL, in conjunction with us and Richmond, have done a terrific job in honouring such an important event,” he said.

“The spectacle on the night – although I haven’t been there in the pre-game – everyone I’ve spoken to, family and friends, have said it’s a pretty surreal night.

“We get to experience that when we run out and hear ‘The Last Post’ and the national anthem, so it’s a real honour for us to be able to perform on that night.

“Every year we say it, but as long as we can put on a show and put on a really strong performance, it respects and honours the history of the night and the following day and we’re really proud to play in it.”
