A LOTTERY will be conducted during Grand Final week to establish the order of picks for the October 12 women’s draft.

The AFL confirmed on Friday that the draft lottery is set for Thursday, September 29, and will be held at Essendon’s annual women’s Grand Final lunch.

The eight inaugural clubs have already selected two marquee players each, with some also nominating priority selection picks.

Melbourne's Daisy Pearce and Collingwood's Moana Hope are among the 16 marquee players.

The bulk of the clubs' lists will be finalised at the October 12 draft in Melbourne.

Clubs are required to have 25 players on their list and can also nominate up to two additional rookies (players new to the game or who haven’t been registered as a player prior to June 15 this year).

The AFL is expecting “hundreds” of players to nominate, with the clubs set to select around 160 players at the draft.

Nominations opened Friday, with players asked to indicate which state they would prefer to play in.

The nomination form is available via http://womensdraft.afl.com.au and will be available until September 30.
