MELBOURNE has delisted defender Alex Georgiou after one season with the club.

The mature-age rookie played seven AFL matches.

“Alex wanted to challenge himself at the highest level after winning two premierships at Norwood,” manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said.

“He made personal and financial sacrifices, leaving a successful career and moving interstate.

"He leaves the club having played seven AFL games and knowing that he has made a lasting impression on players and coaches with his attitude 'to make the most of your AFL opportunity'.”

The 24-year-old was selected at No.35 in last year’s NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

Georgiou made his AFL debut against St Kilda in round one and played every match until round seven.

His last appearance was against Adelaide in Melbourne’s thrilling win over the Crows at Adelaide Oval.

The close-checking backman came to the club after playing in Norwood’s 2012 premiership.

Meanwhile, Melbourne has upgraded defender Neville Jetta back onto the senior list, after a season on the rookie list.

"Neville Jetta has adopted this same attitude [to making the most of his opportunities] and has earned an upgrade to the primary list for the next two years, following an excellent 2014 season," Mahoney said.

Meanwhile, midfielder James Harmes and ruckman Max King have been retained as second year rookies.

"James Harmes and Max King have both developed through 2014 and have accepted contracts to remain on the rookie list for the 2015 season," Mahoney said.
