McKenzie is the heart and soul of the Melbourne midfield, a tackling tyrant who puts enormous pressure on at stoppages and leads the team in contested possessions. A groin injury meant he missed the first eight rounds, robbing the team of midfield grunt. Once back on the park, he played the role of winning first possession at stoppages, working in tight and feeding the ball to runners by hand. He won the team’s Norm Smith Memorial Award (coach’s award) and does whatever he is asked to do.

Draft history: 2009 Rookie Draft selection (Melbourne) No. 1; 2010 NAB AFL Draft rookie elevation (Melbourne) selection No. 81.
