Although slightly undersized as a key defender, Rivers gives 100 per cent every time. The experienced defender finished second in the best and fairest (his first top-three placing) and worked tirelessly, often against the odds, to repel opposition attacks. Needs to improve his one-on-one marking, although he is an effective spoiler, especially as third man up. Is the general of the Melbourne backline.
