Last season was a difficult one for Green in his first season as captain. He played mainly as a deep forward, managing 37 goals, but could not find any consistency. To be fair, it was a tough year for any forward at Melbourne and Green did not back away from criticism that was directed at him or his team. Green led the team in contested marks with 29 in 2011 and has the strength and smarts to win one-on-one contests. Melbourne will hope Green has more opportunities this year to impose himself on games. Turning 31 in March, he faces a challenging year.
