Player Bio

Lewis’ move from Hawthorn to Melbourne was one of the more surprising trades after the 2016 season. But once it had been confirmed, the veteran midfielder took it in his stride and became a significant part of the Demons’ team. Missed three weeks through suspension after an incident with Carlton’s Patrick Cripps, but made up for the indiscretion with a consistent season. Finished equal-third in the best and fairest after filling a number of roles through the midfield and across half-back throughout 2017. Averaged 26.3 disposals a game and was a calm head in pressure situations. Drives standards and acts as a quality teacher for the club’s younger players.

Player honours: Hawthorn best and fairest 2014; Hawthorn 2nd best and fairest 2016; Melbourne 3rd best and fairest 2017 (equal); All-Australian 2014; NAB AFL Rising Star nominee 2005; Hawthorn premiership sides 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.
Brownlow Medal: 2017 votes 2; career votes 71.
Previous AFL club: Hawthorn (2005-16: 264 games, 145 goals).
Draft history: 2004 NAB AFL Draft 1st round selection (Hawthorn) No. 7 overall; 2016 NAB AFL Draft traded by Hawthorn for No. 47 (Harrison Macreadie), No. 53 (Jack Graham).
