Todd Viney’s season assessment
Jack unfortunately got injured and missed the majority of the season. He remains a really important player for us. Jack’s a great size to play in the midfield or half-back. He also has very good leadership skills and we’re excited that he’ll get a good pre-season into him and return next year.

Round-by-round assessment
Comments made by 2011 Melbourne coaching staff members Mark Williams, Brad Gotch and Kelly O’Donnell

AFL: Round 1 v Sydney Swans
Jack was really solid, after an impressive pre-season. He intercepted some marks and gave us good drive from the backline. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 2 v Hawthorn
Grimesy was good. He intercepted marks and switched the play really well. On a few occasions, he fumbled a little bit and didn’t execute his skills to the levels we know he can. It was uncharacteristic and it wasn’t what we expect. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 3 v Brisbane Lions
Grimesy was good and did some fine work off half-back. He was involved in handballs receives and produced another solid game. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 4 v Gold Coast Suns
Grimesy was very solid across half-back. He capitalised on several turnovers and helped set us up with some scores. He finished with 27 touches. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 5 - Bye

AFL: Round 6 v West Coast Eagles
Jack had a solid game. He defended really well and provided some great run out of the backline. He notched up a team-high 27 disposals. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 7 v Adelaide Crows
Unfortunately Jack went off the ground early with a foot injury. It was disappointing for Jack, as he had such a great pre-season and season up until this point. Mark Williams
