The Melbourne Football Club is delighted to announce that it has broken the Club’s all time membership record, with a total of 31,508 members signing up for the 2009 season.

The previous record was set in 2008, with 29,619 members.

President Jim Stynes said it was a tremendous achievement, clearly displaying that Melbourne’s loyal members were right behind the direction and vision of the current board and administration.

“This is the third consecutive year that we have broken our record, and we really owe a great debt of thanks to our members for pledging their commitment to the Melbourne Football Club.  The contribution that they make is very important to our financial well being, and we certainly never underestimate what it means to every single person who becomes a member.  Membership is definitely the lifeblood of the Melbourne Football Club. It’s really a great result, particularly given the harsh economic times that so many people are facing.

“We’d also like to thank the 8,940 MCC members who purchased a Melbourne Football Club membership, further strengthening the bond between the two sporting sections.

“We know there hasn’t been much to cheer about with the results on the scoreboard, but there are undoubtedly some very exciting times ahead for the Club and our developing young team.

“I’d like to also make special mention of our hardworking membership staff, who deserve recognition for their efforts in helping to get the total well past that 30,000 barrier.’
