The Melbourne Football Club has been further strengthened by the appointment of Tim Harrington to the newly created position of General Manager – List Management.
Tim will report directly to Melbourne CEO Cameron Schwab. In close collaboration with Dean Bailey and Chris Connolly, Tim will oversee all strategic list management decisions, including developing a five year football plan. He will also develop and manage long-term TPP/player-payment strategies, and facilitate sound decision making for the Club's recruiting strategies. National Recruiting Manager, Barry Prendergast will report to Tim, and will continue to be responsible for the Club's recruiting and decision making for the National Draft.
Tim comes to Melbourne with a great pedigree, having been actively involved in AFL football since 1982 as a player, assistant coach and senior administrator.
As a player, Tim played under 19s, reserves and senior football, making his debut with North Melbourne in 1984. He then moved to the Western Bulldogs, retiring in 1990 with a total of 46 senior games to his name.
From 1992, Tim was appointed as a full-time assistant coach at the Western Bulldogs under coaches Terry Wheeler and Alan Joyce. During this time, the Bulldogs reached the Preliminary Final in 1992.
Following his stint at the Western Bulldogs, Tim returned to North Melbourne as an assistant coach for seven years under then coach Denis Pagan. In 2002, Tim was promoted to the position of Football Manager, which he held for five years before being appointed as List Manager at North Melbourne in 2007.
Melbourne CEO Cameron Schwab said, 'This appointment has significant strategic importance, given the position of our team and the need to carefully manage all elements in relation to the rebuilding of our player list.
'Tim is highly respected and has a great football background, being involved in eleven AFL finals series, including seven Preliminary Finals, three Grand Finals and two premierships since 1992.'
General Manager of List Management, Tim Harrington, said, 'It’s an honour to be at a club with such a rich history, and I’m excited to be a part of the process of building a positive future. This position really adds further layers in the planning for sustained success at the Melbourne Football Club.'
