MELBOURNE will pay its respects to a Turkish solider carrying an Australian officer, via a specially designed ANZAC Day Eve jumper it will wear against Richmond at the MCG in round five.

The image, on the famous red and blue jumper, is of the Mehmetçik Memorial – a monument on the Gallipoli peninsula, Turkey.

This image is depicted during the Dardanelles Campaign of World War I, where a Turkish soldier, after raising a white flag, carried a wounded Australian officer to Australian lines.

The Turkish soldier then returned to his lines, before the clash resumed.

On Tuesday night, Melbourne will wear this commemorative jumper.

And for the fourth consecutive season, Melbourne and Richmond will go head-to-head on ANZAC Day Eve at the home of football, the MCG.

It will also be the sixth time the two sides have met on April 24. The first two were way back in 1915 and 1937.

For two teams that have been impacted by war, it’s a significant occasion.

On ANZAC Day Eve, another chapter will be written.
