KEY recruit Bianca Jakobsson says she couldn’t have asked for a better start with her new club.

Jakobsson was one of Melbourne’s best in its six-point win over GWS Giants at Casey Fields on Saturday night.

The former Blue said she couldn’t remember singing a post-match team song as much as ‘It’s a Grand Old Flag’ after the win.

“It’s super exciting and a really big moment for me to pull on the red and blue. I couldn’t be any happier with the win,” she told melbournefc.com.au.

“I was pretty nervous, thinking about it all night, as I do.

“I just wanted to stay composed, and once I was out there and I got my first touch, I felt really settled in the game. They’re just such a great bunch of girls to play with and I’m over the moon.”

Coach Mick Stinear said Jakobsson, who crossed from Carlton after the inaugural AFLW season, “was fantastic down back”.

Jakobsson was a strong influence down back and she said it was a position she was relishing.

“I felt pretty comfortable in defence and it’s testament to my teammates out there – I feel so comfortable out there. I’m just really happy and I just want to keep developing,” she said.

“It was super exciting for us down back. We were excited for Rocky [Cranston] when she kicked her goal – we had our fists up in the air.

“Just after that, we were settled and stay composed, and we did really well.”
