NEVILLE Jetta says he couldn’t speak highly enough of representing Australia in the recent International Rules Series against Ireland.

Jetta, who was named in this year’s All-Australian squad, and called up for the two test series, said playing the hybrid game was something he’ll never forget – being part of a victorious Australian team.

“It was an unbelievable experience,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“I never thought I’d be doing that, but it’s something I’m really proud of, and to play with a great bunch of boys, who are unbelievable players, made it even better.

“This was definitely up there as one of my career highlights.”

Jetta said the game “spoke for itself” with two entertaining encounters between Australia and Ireland played in Adelaide and Perth.

He said representing Australia at home, in front of family and friends, was something he’ll always cherish.

“We were a little bit too good in the first game, and then they (Ireland) stepped up and changed their game plan in the second game, and made a really good spectacle of it,” he said.

“It was great to play in Perth in such a fun, fast, exciting game. People got to see some superstars of our game play, and to play down back and help out a bit was great.”

Jetta endorsed a potential three test series and added he would love the opportunity to represent Australia again.

“If they asked me to play again, I’d be more than happy to,” he said.

“If I’m fit and firing, I’d love to play again, because it’s something you don’t get to do too often.”

Jetta said he would encourage any AFL player to aspire to play in the International Rules Series, and said the likes of Melbourne teammates Jayden Hunt and Jeff Garlett would be excellent at the game.

“Jayden Hunt’s speed would be great. You see the Irish’s lightning speed and it’s too hard to defend, so Jayden would be good,” he said.

“Jeffy [Garlett] would also be a good one. They’re (the Irish) aren’t used to getting tackled from behind and that’s Jeffy’s bread and butter.

“They’re the type of guys who come to mind straight away.”
