COACH Simon Goodwin says he couldn’t be more ready to start his senior coaching career.

Goodwin will coach his first game for Melbourne against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium on Saturday – his second AFL game overall, after he guided Essendon for one match in round 23, 2013.

“I feel really ready. I’ve learned a lot throughout my playing days and also through coaching,” he told Melbourne TV.

“I’ve been working towards this for a long time and I feel that I’m at a footy club that’s aligned and has some great senior people.”

Goodwin said “no one’s perfect and everyone makes mistakes” but he had learned plenty throughout his life, which had taught him plenty towards becoming a senior AFL coach.

“There are so many life experiences that you can learn from. I think reflection is such a big part of learning,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter whether it’s family life, business, football, coaching or playing – if you reflect well and you understand what worked for you and what didn’t, there are great forms of learning.

“I think learning is critical to being successful in anything.”
