JACK Viney says he’s relishing his new co-captaincy position, but adds that he hasn’t altered his game much since joining Nathan Jones in the role.

Speaking at Melbourne’s ‘Festival of Footy’ at Carlisle Park, Cranbourne on Tuesday, Viney said he had already learned plenty since being elevated to the job.

“I’m enjoying it. Not heaps has changed – I’m still going about my business the same way,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“I’ve bounced a few more ideas and questions off the senior coach [Simon Goodwin] and Nathan.

“I’ve got a feel for the group and it’s been good to build a framework for the group and identify what’s happening at the club and acting on it.

Viney said the team had played “an exciting brand of football” in its first two JLT Community Series matches.

“It’s been a good start – the first couple of weeks, we’ve been playing well,” he said.

“We had a win against the reigning premiers and then against Carlton.

“I feel we’re displaying a good, strong brand of football, which we’ve been working hard on over the summer, under Goody. All of that hard work is starting to pay off.”

Viney said there was still plenty to be gained in the lead-up to round one, although it had just one JLT Community Series match remaining.

“We’ve got a bit of a gap between now and our game against the West Coast Eagles and then another gap from then until the start of the season,” he said.

“We look at that as a really good opportunity to top up our conditioning and put some big sessions on the field and really get us ready for round one.

“We’re certainly not in in-season mode at the moment – we’re still pushing hard on the track and looking at the next two weeks as a really good opportunity to get fitter, stronger and get set-up for round one.”
