YOUNG key forward Liam Hulett has suffered strained ankle ligaments, but the club is optimistic he won’t be sidelined for too long.

Elite performance manager Dave Misson said there was “no serious structural damage”, but added that it would reassessed on Monday.

“It shouldn’t disrupt his training for too long,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

The incident happened at training at Gosch’s Paddock on Friday when Hulett and teammate Col Garland got their legs caught in a contest.

“It was almost like a soccer incident. Garlo stepped on Liam’s ankle,” Misson said.

“It looked a lot worse than it was. Initially, it was pretty painful for Liam, but he had a scan this afternoon (Friday) and the scan cleared him of any structural damage.

“It’s just an ankle ligament sprain and it’s not a syndesmosis, so it’s a basic ankle ligament and we’ll reassess it Monday.

“He may even get back into training at some stage next week.”
