THERE is no chance Gary Ablett will be playing anywhere but Gold Coast the next two years, says Suns CEO Andrew Travis.

Rumours have circled about a possible return to his former club Geelong in recent weeks after Cats coach Chris Scott said he'd "love to see" Ablett finish his career there.

But it simply won't be happening, with Travis saying Ablett still had so much to offer the young Suns in the remaining two years of his contract.

"From our point of view, we don't see any risk (of him leaving)," Travis told AFL.com.au.

"It's not something that's even entered our mind.

"There was obviously some external discussion that took place and the story got legs because it did have a bit of romance about it.

"We've got Gary contracted for two years and we see him very much fulfilling his contract with the Gold Coast Suns."

Travis also said the notion that Ablett's hefty contract – reported to be in excess of $1million a season - had compromised the club's offers to out-of-contract stars Dion Prestia and Jaeger O'Meara were "off the mark".

"That's no issue," he said.

"We've planned our payment projections for a few years going forward and that's a complete non-issue from our perspective."

Ablett goes in for surgery on his troublesome left shoulder on Wednesday in Melbourne and is expected to return early in the pre-season.

The dual Brownlow medalist will undergo the latarjet surgery, which is far more invasive but expected to be stronger than the keyhole option he undertook in 2014.

"Our group is still a really young group by AFL standards, and what we've learnt over our six years is you can't have enough experienced players that know the game and can show the way," Travis said.

"He's really important to us for at least the next two years."
