EXPERIENCED assistant coach Jade Rawlings says he’s relishing being part of the AFL’s level four coaching accreditation course, which is now in its second year.

Rawlings, along with Justin Longmuir (West Coast Eagles), Brett Montgomery (Western Bulldogs) and Peter Sumich (Fremantle), are undergoing the training, after they were accepted into the course earlier in the year.

Last year, the likes of future Melbourne coach and current senior assistant coach Simon Goodwin were part of the first intake, which also included first-year Carlton coach Brendon Bolton.

Rawlings said it had been “a good start” to the program.

“We’ve done one module so far and there are four of us in it,” he told Melbourne TV.

“It’s really good content and it’s quite challenging, which is the type of course I’ve been looking to do for a little while.

“It’s just begun, but it’s something I’ve been very keen to get involved with and it’s been a good start as well.”

Rawlings said he had spoken to senior assistant coach Simon Goodwin about what the course entails.

“The strength of the program is that it identifies what you can do, but also where you might be a bit short and where your weaknesses are in the program,” he said.

“It’s designed to try and help you with your shortcomings, so that’s what I’m looking forward to getting involved in.”
