DEFENDER Neville Jetta says Melbourne’s new defensive structure is playing an important role in the team’s impressive early season form.

Jetta, an integral part of the side, said he had relished adjusting to Melbourne’s tweak in game style, while doing his job in the backline.

“I’m just playing my role down back,” he told Melbourne TV.

“Having guys down there [like Max Gawn] taking a few contested grabs makes my job a bit easier.

“I can take a few more touches and more licks of the ice cream.”

Jetta said the team was confident heading into this Saturday’s clash against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium, after it defeated the Saints by 24 points at Docklands in the NAB Challenge earlier this year.

“We played them at Etihad [Stadium earlier this year] and beat them in the NAB Challenge,” he said.

“We’re going to take the same approach again and bring the same brand that we did again against Richmond and against Collingwood and North [Melbourne] as well.”

“We just try and take it week by week and improve slowly. The more games we win in a row the better.”
