COACH Paul Roos says Mick Malthouse’s interview on Fox Footy on Thursday night gave a revealing insight into the life of an AFL coach.

Roos said Malthouse, who gave his first public interview since being sacked as Carlton coach, summed up life among the inner sanctum really well.

“A lot of the things he said I agreed with,” he said.

“It’s very worthwhile seeing a coach that’s been coaching for 31 years, and that’s just been dismissed from his footy club – it’s must-watch viewing, because it gives a really good insight into AFL football.

“It’s one of the best hours of TV I’ve seen.”

Roos said Malthouse’s passion was what resonated with him the most.

“I think just his passion – the passion he still has for the game,” he said.

“I think anyone that’s seen it now realises why he was like he was at certain times, he’s just passionate, he loves the game, and he loves his players, he loves his footy club.”

Meanwhile, Roos praised the recent performance of forward/ruckman Cam Pedersen, who will be his 50th AFL match against the Power.

“His last two weeks have been really good. Hoges (Jesse Hogan) missed the week before and Pedo played really well against Hawthorn and played well last week (against the Dogs),” he said.

“It's really important to have two guys who work really well up there and they seem to be finding a bit of chemistry.

Roos added that Jack Fitzpatrick had also impressed for the Demons last week in his new role down back.

“He’s pretty comfortable down back and we played him down back in our VFL team for about five or six weeks and we’ve set him there,” he said.

“They’ll be a match-up for him down back and if we need to, we can throw him forward. Certainly on the back of last week, he’ll be starting in defence.”

Roos also said Tom McDonald was continuing to have an outstanding year.

“His season so far has been terrific. He's been playing on all the really good players. They've got a couple of good forwards as well, so he's generally been playing on the best opposition forward and been playing really well,” he said.
