IT WAS a busy day out in the City of Casey for Melbourne players as they visited local primary schools and footy clubs as part of the club’s work in the community.

The players worked in conjunction with Monash University education students to deliver the club’s Read Like a Demon program.

During the sessions, the players discussed the importance of reading then read two different books to the student groups.

One of these short stories, Molly’s New Family, was written by primary school student Grace Fearn, who was the winner of the 2014 ‘Write Like a Demon’ competition.

The players read with the students and quizzed them after each page of the story.

At the conclusion of the reading sessions, the players also participated in a general Q&A session with the students.

Later in the day, players also visited junior football clubs in the region to conduct a variety of clinics and drills.

As part of the evening, the players also conducted a Q&A session with junior footballers about life as a professional athlete, providing an insight into the AFL environment.

Visits to primary schools and junior football clubs are part of Melbourne’s work within the City of Casey community.
