VIV Michie says having played against Fremantle in Melbourne’s first NAB Challenge match this season will take away some of the edge of lining-up against his ex-team for the first time in a home and away match this Sunday.

Michie, who will play his ninth AFL match at the MCG this weekend, says the anticipation of taking on many of his former teammates won’t have the same feeling this time around, given he experienced it in a NAB Challenge match at Fremantle Oval in February.

“It’ll just be a normal build-up for me and I don’t think it’ll be any different for me playing Fremantle,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“I’ve already experienced it somewhat, so I don’t think it’ll be too drastic for me.

“I don’t think it’ll go into my head too much, being against my old team.

Michie, who was one of Melbourne’s best last round with 19 touches against Richmond at the MCG, said he was determined to back up his good return by keeping it simple.

“I’m just going to do what I did last week and stay in the team, so that’s all about me playing my role, doing my best for the team and doing what’s asked of me,” he said.

“I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing, so that’ll keep me in the side and that’s all I’m focusing on.

“It’ll be fun to run out against my old side.”
