YOUNG-gun Jack Viney says training in humid, hot conditions has been one of the best things he has gained from Melbourne’s pre-season camp so far.

Viney said the Maroochydore camp had been a great for “challenging yourself”.

“You don’t get these conditions back in Melbourne very often, so to really push yourself and get yourself out of your comfort zone [has been great]. That’s why I really enjoy these camps,” he said.

“It’s certainly happened so far this trip.”

Viney highlighted Friday morning’s training on Mooloolaba Beach, which he added “wasn’t a tanning session”.

“They’ve (the coaches and fitness staff) certainly made everything a lot tougher, but we’re going through our game plans and getting sorted for footy, which has been pleasing [as well],” he said.

“We haven’t really had much rest, so they’ve certainly been physically and mentally challenging to back yourself up each session, and produce a good standard of training.

“It’s been tough, but we’ve got 10 days to really work here and we get a bit of a rest when we get back, so we’re not wasting a session.”

Meanwhile, Viney said he enjoyed his turn at cooking for some of his teammates the other night. He cooked a steak, which earned rave reviews from teammate Dom Tyson.

“I set a pretty good standard for the rest of the house, but I think Dom Tyson [is cooking next] and is doing a chilli con carne, so we’ll see what happens,” he said with a smile.
