Ball movement coach Mark Williams speaks exclusively to melbournefc.com.au in the sixth of a nine-part series about how the Melbourne players are tracking this pre-season

Joel Macdonald

Joel has been in the rehab group, but he adds enormous confidence to the group. He adds aggression and interacts fantastically with the group, particularly for a player who has only been here for a year. Joel has brought great knowledge and experience to the group, and that has reflected over the pre-season. We just want him to get his body right, so that he can be a big part of the backline moving forward.

Addam Maric
Not having played a lot last year, Addam has showed throughout the pre-season that he is hungry. He has been prepared to push himself, and he has been outstanding. He has really come to train, and has prepared himself well. We just want Addam to continue to get his training routine right and make sure that when it comes to the start of the season, we can select him in the senior side.

Stefan Martin
Stef was in the gym every day after his hip operation. He knows it’s crunch time, and he’s got to get his body and mind prepared really well. Stef’s got to put his best foot forward and we’re very confident he’ll do that. Seeing the way he’s prepared so far over the pre-season, we’re really happy with what he’s done. We hope he continues to give himself the best opportunity of playing senior footy.

Tom McDonald
Tom’s ruck work has been impressive. He is strong for his age and positions himself really well. Tom needs to adjust to living in Melbourne. He needs to make sure he gets his preparation and recovery right. Another challenge for Tom will be spreading across a couple of lines - he will have to continue to be proactive in studying ruck work and understanding the roles up forward and down back.

Jordie McKenzie
We love the way Jordie goes about it - he’s hard, but also an exciting player. Jordie has continued his strong preparation, and we just want him to build on the season he had in 2010, by gaining more knowledge in the way we want him to play and becoming flexible with his roles. We want him to become more attacking, despite his defensive game being outstanding. We want him to let himself go more.
