MELBOURNEfc has joined forces with a range of teams from different sporting codes that bear the ‘Melbourne’ identity, creating a new vision for the sporting community with the launch of the world first alliance, TEAMelbourne.

The Club was represented by captain David Neitz, coach Neale Daniher, and CEO Steve Harris at the official launch today, with Harris speaking on behalf of the founding member clubs, which include Melbourne Storm, Melbourne Phoenix, Melbourne Racing and Melbourne Tigers. Together, they create what promises to be a truly innovative alliance for the future development of all the member clubs of TEAMelbourne.

“TEAMelbourne was born of the belief that Melbourne-based, and Melbourne-named clubs, have a particular responsibility for embracing the name and culture of our city,” Harris said.

“The view is that if the clubs involved work collaboratively, without losing any sense of identity, it will provide broader and deeper opportunities.”

Exemplifying this principle, MELBOURNEfc has committed seed funding, and has provided in-kind support of office space at the Melbourne Cricket Ground for TEAMelbourne staff.

In 2008, MELBOURNEfc will celebrate 150 years of unique history and memorable achievements, making the TEAMelbourne opportunity an essential step forward to achieving the Club’s goals within the sporting industry and local community.

“The opportunities for our club encompass membership and supporter bases; athlete, coach, trainer and staff development; sports science and technology; infrastructure efficiencies; corporate partners; and stronger roles as community leaders.”

“We are firm believers in TEAMelbourne, and we look forward to seeing the opportunities of this world-class organisation benefit MELBOURNEfc, as well as provide a great new opportunity for sports fans everywhere,” Harris said.
