DEMON James McDonald is delighted that Ricky Petterd is out of hospital and making a successful recovery. Pettard suffered a major scare during Melbourne's round 14 clash with Carlton at the MCG, when team doctor Kal Fried had to insert a tube into the 18-year-old's punctured lung in order to release trapped air.
Had Fried not been on hand to perform the procedure, Pettard would have almost certainly died.
"It's been a tough week for him but he's a tough young kid and hopefully he'll be ready and raring to go for next year," McDonald said.
McDonald also defended the actions of team mate Aaron Davey, who copped a two-match suspension for striking Troy Selwood in the first quarter of the club's 44-point loss to Brisbane at the weekend.
"Aaron gets checked pretty closely every week, so it's only human that you're going to get frustrated every now and again. But he rectified that after quarter time and he was probably one of our best contributors for the game and let his actions do the talking," McDonald said.
In better news for the Demons, McDonald confirmed that David Neitz, Cameron Bruce and Brad Green are all a chance to return for the club's tricky assignment against the in-form Kangaroos this weekend.
